Preparation and standardization of 0.1 M Tetrabutylammonium hydroxide in Isopropanol : Methanol (9:1) IH Volumetric Solution

Preparation and standardization of 0.1 M Tetrabutylammonium hydroxide in Isopropanol : Methanol (9:1) IH Volumetric Solution

1.  PREPARATION:

25.95 g Tetrabutylammonium hydroxide in 1000 mL of Isopropanol / Methanol (9:1) solution.

2. STANDARDISATION:

Weigh about 0.1 g of anhydrous Potassium hydrogen phthalate (previously dried at 110°C for 3 hours) in a 100 mL beaker, add 50 mL of water, dissolve and titrate against 0.1 M Tetrabutylammonium hydroxide in 9:1 Isopropanol / Methanol solution potentiometrically.

Calculation:

Molarity of Tetrabutylammonium hydroxide in 9:1 Isopropanol / Methanol solution.

Molarity = [0.1 x Weight of anhydrous Potassium hydrogen phthalate (in g)]/[0.02042 x B.R. (mL)]

Limit: 0.1 M ± 5 % (0.0950 M – 0.1050 M)

3. STORAGE CONDITION:

Preserve in glass-stoppered bottles.
