Preparation and standardization of 0.05 M Silver Nitrate BP Volumetric Solution
1. PREPARATION:
Dissolve 8.5 g of Silver nitrate in sufficient carbon dioxide free water to produce 1000 ml
2. STANDARDISATION:
Dissolve 0.05 gm of Sodium chloride in 30 ml of water and titrate with Silver nitrate solution potentiometrically.
Each ml of 0.05 M Silver nitrate VS is equivalent to 2.922 mg of NaCl.
Calculation:
Molarity (M) = [0.05 x weight of Sodium chloride (in g)]/ [Titration reading (in ml) x 0.002922]
Limit: 0.05 M ± 5 % (0.0475 M – 0.0525 M)
3. STORAGE CONDITION:
Store in glass-stoppered bottles, protected from light.
