Preparation and standardization of 0.01 N Silver Nitrate USP Volumetric Solution Name

1.  PREPARATION:

Dissolve about 1.75 g of Silver Nitrate in 1000 mL of water.

2. STANDARDISATION:

Transfer about 20 mg accurately weighed, of reagent-grade Sodium Chloride, previously dried at 110°C for 2 hours, to a 150 mL beaker, dissolve in 5 mL of water, and add 5 mL of Acetic acid, 50 mL of Methanol and about 0.5 mL of Eosin Y TS. Stir, preferably with a magnetic stirrer, and titrate with the Silver Nitrate solution.

Calculation:

Normality (N) = Weight of NaCl (in mg)/ [Titration reading (in mL) x 58.44]

Limit: 0.01 N ± 5 % (0.0095 N – 0.0105 N)

3. PREPARATION OF INDICATORS / REAGENTS:

a. Eosin Y TS (adsorption indicator):

Dissolve 50 mg of Eosin Y in 10 mL of water.

4. STORAGE CONDITION:

Store in glass-stoppered bottles.
