Preparation and standardization of 0.05 N Silver Nitrate USP Volumetric Solution
1. PREPARATION:
Dissolve 8.75 g of Silver Nnitrate in 1000 mL of water.
2. STANDARDIZATION :
Transfer about 50 mg, accurately weighed, of primary or volumetric standard Sodium chloride, dried according to the label instructions or, if this information is not available, dried at 110°C for 2 h, to a 150-mL beaker. Dissolve in 5 mL of water and add 5 mL of acetic acid, 50 mL of methanol, and about 0.5 mL of eosin Y TS. Stir, preferably with a magnetic stirrer, and titrate with the silver nitrate solution.
Calculation:
N =[Wt of Sodium chloride (NaCl) in mg]/ [Titration Reading (mL AgNO3) x 58.44]
Limit : 0.05 N ± 5 % (0.0475 N – 0.0525 N)
3. PREPARATION OF INDICATORS / REAGENTS:
a. Eosin Y TS :
Dissolve 50 mg of eosin Y in 10 mL of water.
4. STORAGE CONDITION:
Store in amber glass stoppered bottles.
