Preparation and standardization of 0.05 N Silver Nitrate USP Volumetric Solution

1.  PREPARATION:

Dissolve 8.75 g of Silver Nnitrate in 1000 mL of water.

2. STANDARDIZATION :

Transfer about 50 mg, accurately weighed, of primary or volumetric standard Sodium chloride, dried according to the label instructions or, if this information is not available, dried at 110°C for 2 h, to a 150-mL beaker. Dissolve in 5 mL of water and add 5 mL of acetic acid, 50 mL of methanol, and about 0.5 mL of eosin Y TS. Stir, preferably with a magnetic stirrer, and titrate with the silver nitrate solution.

Calculation:

N =[Wt of Sodium chloride (NaCl) in mg]/ [Titration Reading (mL AgNO3) x 58.44]

Limit : 0.05 N ± 5 % (0.0475 N – 0.0525 N)

3. PREPARATION OF INDICATORS / REAGENTS:

a. Eosin Y TS :

Dissolve 50 mg of eosin Y in 10 mL of water.

4. STORAGE CONDITION:

Store in amber glass stoppered bottles.
