Preparation and standardisation of 0.1 M Silver Nitrate EP volumetric solution

1.  PREPARATION:

Dissolve 17.0 g of Silver Nitrate in water and dilute to 1000 mL with the same solvent.

2. STANDARDISATION:

Dissolve 50 mg of Sodium chloride in water, add 5 mL of dilute nitric acid and dilute to 50 mL with water. Titrate with Silver nitrate solution, determining the end point potentiometrically.

1 mL of 0.1 M Silver nitrate is equivalent to 5.844 mg of Sodium chloride.

Calculation:

Molarity (M) = [0.1 x Weight of NaCl (in g)]/[Titration reading (in mL) x 0.005844]

Limit: 0.1 M ± 5 % (0.0950 M – 0.1050 M)

3. PREPARATION OF INDICATORS / REAGENTS:

a. dilute Nitric acid

Dilute 20 g of Nitric acid to 100 mL with water.

4. STORAGE CONDITION:

Store in glass stoppered bottles, protected from light.
