Preparation and Standardisation of 0.01 M Lead Nitrate BP Volumetric Solution

1.  PREPARATION:

Dissolve 3.3 g of Lead (II) nitrate in sufficient water to produce 1000 ml.

2. STANDARDISATION:

To 50 ml of 0.01M Lead nitrate solution add 300 ml of water and introduce into 500 ml conical flask. Add about 50 mg of Xylenol orange triturate & hexamethylenetetramine until solution becomes violet pink colour. Titrate with 0.01M Disoidum edetate until the violet-pink colour changes to yellow.

Each ml of 0.01 M Disodium edetate VS is equivalent to 3.312 mg of Pb(NO3)2.

Calculation:

Molarity (M) = (Molarity of 0.01 M Disodium edetate x Titration reading)/ Volume of 0.01 M Lead nitrate taken

Limit: 0.01 M ± 5 % (0.0095 M – 0.0105 M)

3. PREPARATION OF INDICATORS / REAGENTS:

a. Xylenol orange triturate:

Triturate 1 part of Xylenol orange with 99 parts of Potassium nitrate.

b. 0.01M Disoidum edetate:

4. STORAGE CONDITION:

Store in glass-stoppered bottles.
