Preparation and Standardisation of 0.01 M Silver Nitrate EP Volumetric Solution

1.  PREPARATION:

Dissolve 1.7 g of Silver Nitrate in water and dilute to 1000 ml with the same solvent.

2. STANDARDISATION:

Accurately weigh and dissolve 20 mg of Sodium chloride in 30 ml of water and Titrate with the Silver Nitrate solution determining the end point potentiometrically.

1 ml of 0.01 M Silver Nitrate is equivalent to 0.5844 mg of NaCl.

Calculation:

Molarity (M) = (0.01 x Weight of NaCl (in mg))/ Titration reading (in ml) x 0.5844

Limit: 0.01 M ± 5 % (0.0095 M – 0.0105 M)

3. STORAGE CONDITION:

Store in glass stoppered bottles, protected from light.
