Standard Operating Procedure for Operation and Cleaning of Eye Wash and Safety Shower

1.0 Purpose:

To lay down a procedure for Operation and Cleaning of Eye Wash and Safety Shower.

2.0 Scope:

The scope of this procedure is applicable for Operation and Cleaning of Eye Wash and Safety Shower located in the Quality Control Department at [Company Name].

3.0 Responsibility:

QC Personnel: To Operate the Eye Wash and Safety Shower in case of incidence or emergency

Section Head-QC/Designee: To Monitor the Activity.

4.0 Definitions:

NA

5.0 Procedure:

5.1 The water tank must be filled with water.

5.2 Check the uniform flow of water from the eye wash and safety shower outlet by allowing the water to flow from outlets for 5 minutes on a daily basis. This shall be recorded in the respective format.

5.3 Operating Procedure for Eye Wash:

• Open the main drain valve of the water supply line by turning it anticlockwise.

• Open the cap of the eye wash outlet.

• Bring the person who is affected by an eye incidence near the eye washer.

• Push the paddle/button for water to flow uniformly. • Ask the person to bend forward to facilitate washing of eyes.

• Set the required water flow by pushing the paddle/button and keep it in running condition up to the required time.

• After using the eye washer, bring/release the paddle/button to its original position to stop the flow of water.

• Close the eye wash outlet with its cap.

5.4 Operating Procedure for Safety Shower:

• Pull the handle of the safety shower to start the flow of water.

• Bring the affected person under the safety shower and set the required water flow by adjusting the handle height.

• After using the safety shower, pull the safety shower’s other handle to stop the water flow.

5.5 Cleaning Procedure: Flush the eye wash and safety shower with water daily for 5 minutes.

6.0 Acceptance Criteria:

Not Applicable.

7.0 Frequency:

Operation: As and when required.

Cleaning: Daily
