Preparation and standardisation of 0.1 M Potassium hydroxide EP Volumetric Solution
1. PREPARATION:
Accurately weigh and dissolve 17.0 g of Silver nitrate in sufficient water to produce 1000 mL.
2. STANDARDISATION:
Standardisation :
Dissolve 50 mg of Sodium chloride in water, add 5 mL of dilute Nitric acid and dilute to 50 mL with water. Titrate with the Silver nitrate solution, determining the end point potentiometrically.
1 mL of 0.1M Silver nitrate is equivalent to 5.844 mg of Sodium chloride.
Calculation:
Molarity (M) = [0.1 x weight of NaCl (in g)]/ [Titration reading (in mL) x 0.005844]
Limit: 0.1 M ± 5 % (0.0950 M – 0.1050 M)
3. PREPARATION OF INDICATORS / REAGENTS:
b. Dilute Nitric acid :
Dilute 20 g of Nitric acid to 100 mL with water.
4. STORAGE CONDITION:
Store in glass-stoppered bottles, protected from light.
